Their Home Team  Pride

In the Deep South, high school football rivalries can bring a team together, or pit families vs. families.  The Pruitts and the Samuels are two such families.  Patriarch Lewis played for West County Blue Raiders, as did his son Mike,  and grandson Colin was the WCHS quarterback last year. 

 

For 40 years, Roger J. Samuels was Lew Pruitt’s friendly rival, and a Samuels (son R.J. and grandson Tripper) always lined up on Homecoming Saturday against a Pruitt on the gridiron – often with a wacky bet at stake, designed to embarrass  the defeated family. 

 

This year, the Samuels thought they had the best prank; the losing Pruitts were to dress as a bridal party and pose for wedding photos.  Little did the Samuels know that their targets of scorned actually had a another cherished tradition: “Lana”, “Melody”, and “Candice” often got together to glam up.  

The beautiful bride, her glamorous mother, and elegant grandmother (dressed in WCHS blue, of course) smiled and posed fiercely as the Samuels’ boys gawked at the three shapely blondes.  The T-girl trio would relish going “1- 1” with their handsome dates – for these Blue Raider babes, victory was certain.

MOTB Tales:  Completely Committed

Walt Butler put his hand deftly on the shoulder of his son Phillip and grinned.  “Like the view from here, don’tcha?” the proud father commented.  

“Hell yea, pop.  I mean, I am in such awe of what commitment our neighbors made to make all of our lives full and complete, “ replied Phillip.

“You said it, son.  I mean when Marc and his son Sean were infected with that virus, I thought that we’d never see our neighbors and friends again.  But they’ve come back, better than ever as beautiful women.  And here they come now,” as the lovely bride and her mom strolled across the reception floor.

“I’m sorry, Phil, honey,  and Daddy,” cooed the newlywed Serena.  “Mom and I were just staring at your two gorgeous guys in your formal wear. “

“And I was just reminding Serena, that now that we’re your happy lil’ wives, we get to see you two BIG studs out of your tuxes,” added the sultry Martina.

MOTB Tales: My Secret Weapon

My wedding day was here!  Six years after casting aside my male “identity” as Tommy, I was ready to be Mrs. Tara Rivers, wife of the next CEO of Intellispace.  I really wanted my family, especially my brothers Geoff and Sean, and my dad Joe with me that day, but their bigotry and bullheadedness were getting in the way.  I needed to call in my bridal secret weapon – Hanna!

Hanna worked her wonders on my big tough brothers, and voila, they did a 180 degree turnaround.  They even agreed to be my darling bridesmaids – Gwen and Sally!  I loved having sisters instead of brothers, and we all bonded in ways we never could as guys.  Especially when it came to checking out the hunks in the tuxedos.  They both found groomsmen that they flirted with!

Now, my Dad put up more resistance, but that Hanna, she’s a very persuasive gal.  The same magic kicked in, and now I had a gorgeous mother of the bride.

  “Mommy, isn’t Grandma Jeanne pretty, just like you and my aunties?”  giggled my daughter Hanna.  How did this little girl get to be so powerful at changing lives?  

 I’m not sure, but since Hanna was originally Henry, a little boy that my high school sweetheart left to me after she died in a car wreck, there must be some influence from her birth mom Stephanie that has not only turned a sad boy into a princess, it’s brought joy to a family of males, now wonderful women.  That includes my single mom, who really fills out her MOTB gown in a very sexy way.  

 My darling daughter, your Grandma is a very pretty lady – and one day you will be a beautiful bride as well!
